Our story, our mission, our people

Feeding The World began with a simple belief: no one should go to bed hungry. Since our founding, we have grown from a small local initiative into a nationwide movement — but our heart remains the same.

How it all began

From one street corner to 47 cities

Feeding The World was founded in the UK by a small group of volunteers who were moved by the sight of people sleeping rough and going without food on the streets of Birmingham. Armed with flasks of hot soup and bags of bread rolls, they set out every Friday night to make sure no one in their neighbourhood went hungry.

Word spread quickly. More volunteers joined. Local businesses began donating surplus food. Within a year, the Friday night runs had expanded to seven nights a week and spread to neighbouring cities. What started as a handful of people with a shared conviction became a registered charity with a national reach.

Today, Feeding The World operates across 47 cities in England, Scotland and Wales. We have served over 250,000 hot meals, supported more than 18,000 individuals, and raised over £1.2 million — every penny of which goes directly to feeding people in need.

Our mission

To ensure that every person experiencing homelessness or food poverty in the UK has access to a hot, nutritious meal — with dignity, compassion, and no questions asked.

Dignity first

We serve every person with the same respect and warmth we would want for ourselves. No one is made to feel lesser for needing help.

No one left behind

We go to where people are — streets, shelters, food banks — so that the most vulnerable are never out of reach.

Community-powered

Our strength comes from ordinary people doing extraordinary things. Volunteers, donors, and local partners are the backbone of everything we do.
